Wireless products from Texas Instruments (hereafter TI) support many wireless standards.
This time, we will introduce seven development/evaluation boards suitable for IoT for each wireless standard from the SimpleLink™ series products. I hope that those who are going to develop wireless systems can refer to it.
For an overview of the SimpleLink series, please see the article below.
What is the SimpleLink series with low power consumption and suitable for IoT?
Regarding the acquisition of technical standard conformity certification
Before introducing each product, we have summarized in a table whether the product has received technical standards conformity certification (hereinafter referred to as technical compliance).
Using a product that has not been certified for technical suitability may violate the Radio Law. For the development/evaluation boards introduced this time, only the products marked with "○" in the table below have acquired technical conformity in Japan. For products that have not acquired technical suitability, it is necessary to use them in an anechoic chamber or an anechoic box, or to obtain technical suitability yourself.

Development/Evaluation Board with Wi-Fi® Module
We recommend "CC3220MOD" and "CC3120MOD" for modules that can use TI's Wi-FI. In addition, both are products that have already acquired technical suitability in Japan.
If you have not acquired domestic technical standards, you will need a lot of money and time to prove that you comply with the technical standards stipulated by the Radio Law, but even with this board that has already been certified. authentication process can be skipped.
The big difference is that the CC3220MOD is a module that combines a microcomputer and a network processor, while the CC3110MOD has a single network processor.
LAUNCHCC3220MODASF: Equipped with a chip that combines a microcomputer and a network processor
- Powered by Arm® Cortex®- M4 and Wi-Fi network processor
- TELEC, FCC, IC, CE/RED, SRRC certified
- 1MB Flash, 256KB RAM, Enhanced Security Features
LAUNCHCC3220MODASF contains two physically separated on-chip MCUs. Also, the CC3220MOD installed on the board is a wireless module made for IoT. In addition, various functions are incorporated so that it can be easily connected to the network.
BOOSTXL-CC3120MOD: Recommended for those who want to retrofit only Wi-FI function
- Built-in Wi-Fi network processor
- TELEC, FCC, IC, CE/RED, SRRC certified
Unlike the CC3220MOD introduced above, BOOSTXL-CC3120MOD uses CC3120MOD with only a network processor. This allows users to add Wi-Fi functionality to their existing products.
*To develop/evaluate this product, CC31XXEMUBOOST and MSP-EXP432P401R are required separately.
Development/Evaluation Board for Sub-1GHz
LAUNCHXL-CC1310: Features long range connectivity and 32-bit Arm® Cortex® -M3 processor
- 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M3 processor acting as the main processor
- Configured with a wide range of peripheral functions including a unique ultra-low power sensor controller
- Support Japan (920MHz), Europe (868MHz), and USA (915MHz) with same BOM and PCB design
The board features a wide variety of peripheral functions, including a unique ultra-low power sensor controller. This sensor controller is ideal for interfacing with external sensors, and can collect analog and digital data while other functions of the system are in sleep mode.
Sub-1GHz + Bluetooth® Development/Evaluation Board
LAUNCHXL-CC1350: Enables development and evaluation of long-distance radios that support two frequency bands
- Powered by a 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M3 processor
- Both Sub-1GHz and 2.4GHz RF frequencies are available
The board combines Sub-1GHz and Bluetooth Low Energy radios and integrates a 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M3 processor into a single chip, enabling the integration of long-range connectivity features into mobile phones/smartphones. .
In addition, since the sub-1 GHz band that can be used for this product differs depending on the country, there are two types of model numbers that change the circuit around the antenna according to the corresponding band. When purchasing, please refer to the following and select at your own discretion.
LAUNCHXL-CC1350US: For USA and Japan
LAUNCHXL-CC1350EU: for Europe
