Relationship between monopole antenna (TG.09.0113) and GND

1.First of all

There are several types of antennas, such as dipole antennas,​ ​monopole antennas, loop antennas, and inverted F-type antennas.

Among them, last time we actually saw the influence of metal as "characteristic change due to environment of flexible PCB (FXP74)", but this time we will talk about monopole antenna (monopole antenna) among Taoglas products that are often inquired by customers. 2. Products

The products used this time are as follows.

It covers from band28 to band42 and has a maximum radiation efficiency of 74.5 %.

(Taoglas uses this radiation efficiency as one index for safe communication)

3. Product evaluation

As for the evaluation content, TG.09.0113 is a monopole antenna, so it originally needs a GND.

I checked the effect on return loss (S11) andVSWR.

Recently, Taoglas has released a very efficient monopole antenna without GND, but TG.09.0113 requires GND.

Please secure the GND when it is commercialized.

Also, there are some products where it is difficult to distinguish between a dipole antenna and a monopole antenna just by looking at them, so please be careful when selecting or consulting with us.)

 

■ Measuring instruments used

・Network analyzer: ZNB8 (Rohde & Schwarz)

・Coaxial cable: 585.03.15.0250A (Atem)

・ Various conversion connectors (use Rohde's ZV-Z51 for the configuration kit)

About TG.09.0113

①-1: Return loss (S11) and VSWR

In order to confirm the difference, I first measured without GND. It may sound verbose, but since it is originally a monopole antenna, GND is required.

Return loss (S11) VSWR

The horizontal axis is set to 600M-4GHz, but the VSWR is stable around 2 to 3, and the return loss (S11) is also in the single digit range.

Based on this result, I tried to generate an antenna GND simply using a copper plate. In this test, the same board equivalent to about 38 mm is used.

Originally, I would like you to create a conversion board with an SMA connector and check it.

Return loss (S11) VSWR

As a result, it is stable around VSWR = 1 to 2, and it can be seen that the return loss (S11) is also improved by 8 dB at max.

As you can see from this result, even with a simple GND, there is a big difference in characteristics.

4. Summary
