Channel Sounding
One of the new features added to the Bluetooth standard "Bluetooth 6.0" announced in September 2024 is "channel sounding."
Formerly known as High Accuracy Distance Measurement (HADM), this technology uses PBR (Phase-Based Ranging), RTT (Round-Trip Time-Based Ranging) to accurately measure the distance between two BLE devices.
This technology will enable next-generation wireless access and proximity solutions to further enrich users' lives.

Dual Antenna Evaluation Board Benefits
The Channel Sounding specification allows for up to four antenna paths between the Initiator and Reflector.
While it is not necessary to use multiple antennas, using multiple antenna paths increases the robustness and accuracy of the channel sounding.
Specific use cases include when the tag is in a back pocket or in a very electrically noisy environment where multiple antenna paths can be beneficial.
Silicon Labs has released an evaluation board that is ideal for evaluating channel sounding.

Overview
The evaluation board features dual PCB antennas on a small 3.3x3.3cm board, up to +10 dBm output power, and an accelerometer, making it a feature-packed USB or coin cell battery powered development platform. Simplicity StudioWhen connected to a PC running Windows 8.1, the Channel Sounding Visualizer tool makes it easy to view distance measurements in real time.
