LTE Cat-M1 module: How the HL7800-M Development kit works

This article explains how to set up an evaluation environment to enable you to smoothly evaluate the Semtech LTE Cat-M1 module: HL7800-M and Development kit.

things to prepare

First of all, prepare the above equipment.

The Development kit you purchased includes an evaluation board, AC adapter, and antenna. The Development kit does not include a module, so you will need to purchase one separately. The PC will be running Windows 10, and you will also need a USB cable to connect the PC to the evaluation board. Like the module, a SIM card is not included, so you will need to prepare one yourself.

This time we used SORACOM plankM-1We are using it.

Equipment connection

After completing the preparations, connect each device as described above. Do not connect the AC adapter until the module is set and the case is fitted.

Insert the SIM in the direction shown above.

The module has a direction.

Please note that if you place the product in a position other than that described above, there is a risk of damage.

module startup

After completing all connections other than the AC adapter, plug the AC adapter into the power jack. If the yellow LED above flashes, unplug the AC adapter from the jack and check that the module is correctly positioned and the case is properly attached.

PC setup

Once the power connection is complete, the next step is to set up the PC environment. This time, we will use "TeraTerm" to send AT commands to the module.

Open TeraTerm and select Settings → Serial Port to configure the port.

Set the above value for the serial port. Set the baud rate to 115200 and leave everything else as default.

コマンド送信

Once the PC setup is complete, AT commands can be sent. Please watch the video that actually sends AT commands and attaches to the base station.

Summary

In this article, we set up an environment for the Semtech LTE Cat-M1 module: HL7800-M Development Kit, and then controlled the module. As a result, we confirmed that it was possible to attach to a base station using AT commands under the above environment.
