Features of industry's smallest class 2-color LED "SML-D22MUW"
SML-D22MUW is a two-color chip LED provided by ROHM.
Since two elements, red and green, are mounted in a 1.6x0.8mm package, a single LED can display red, green, and their intermediate color (orange).
Single-color LEDs are often used in the numeric displays of industrial equipment. However, there were problems such as the display being difficult to understand when there was an abnormality in a single color.
By using SML-D22MUW, you can not only display easy-to-understand numbers, but also achieve low cost and space saving.

The SML-D22MUW has the following major features.
1. The industry's smallest 1608 size realizes compact and thin devices
The SML-D22MUW has two color chip LEDs, red and green, in a 1.6x0.8mm package, which is the same size as a single-color chip LED.
In addition, the light emitting part has two color light sources mounted on the resin part size of 1.2x0.8mm. Therefore, it is possible to express not only two colors of red and green, but also intermediate colors between them.
2. Enables high-definition dot-matrix display
The SML-D22MUW package uses a backside electrode, which enables mounting with a narrow spacing.
As a result, extremely high-definition dot-matrix display can be achieved compared to conventional displays.
3. Realizes high reliability by preventing solder intrusion
SML-D22MUW has a stopper called a resist before the gold plating process on the electrodes.
Therefore, it is possible to prevent solder from penetrating into the inside of the resin, so there is no need to worry about malfunctions due to short circuits.
