Features of Isolated Flyback DC/DC Converter "BD7F Series"
In general, isolated flyback converters are often used as power supplies for industrial equipment. However, I have the following problem.
- A photocoupler and auxiliary winding are required to isolate the feedback path, resulting in a larger size.
- Many parts are used to configure the isolation circuit
ROHM 's isolated flyback DC/DC converter BD7F series does not require a feedback circuit, photocoupler, or auxiliary winding. Therefore, it is possible to realize miniaturization and high efficiency of power supply peripheral circuits.
In addition, since it has a built-in protection circuit and noise reduction function, it is ideal for FA equipment and industrial applications.
The BD7F series has the following major features and advantages.
1. Miniaturization realized without photocoupler and auxiliary winding
Conventional isolated flyback converters stabilize the output voltage by feeding back the output voltage on the secondary side to the control circuit on the primary side. Therefore, a photocoupler and an auxiliary winding are required, which is a factor in increasing the size.
ROHM's "isolated flyback DC/DC converter" can detect voltage and current on the secondary side by applying feedback on the primary side. Therefore, a general feedback circuit (photocoupler & auxiliary winding) is not required.
Significantly reducing the number of parts contributes to miniaturization and improved reliability.
2. The industry's first control method! Minimizes momentary output voltage fluctuations
ROHM's "isolated flyback DC/DC converter" employs the industry's first adaptive ON time control method.
Therefore, the output voltage fluctuation is 200mV (load current 1A, rise time 100μs).
The output voltage fluctuation can be suppressed to 65% or less compared to the general control method.
Product reliability can be improved.

"BD7F100HFN" evaluation board for immediate evaluation
The BD7F100HFN evaluation board can be used to immediately evaluate ROHM's "isolated flyback DC/DC converter".
This evaluation board makes it easy to evaluate an isolated power supply with an input voltage of 24V, an output voltage of 5V, and an output current of 800mA.
The evaluation procedure can be done in the following steps.
Step 1 Prepare the necessary equipment
- 24V, 0.5A DC power supply
- Load up to 800mA
- DC voltmeter
Step 2 Connect your equipment
- Connect the positive and negative terminals of the load
- Connects the positive and negative terminals of a DC voltmeter to dedicated terminals for input voltage measurement
- Connects the positive and negative terminals of a DC voltmeter to dedicated terminals for output voltage measurement
- Apply the positive terminal of the DC power supply 24V to "VIN+" and the negative terminal to "VIN-"
- Make sure the output voltage is 5.0V before enabling the load
