Introduction

In the past, products such as over-the-head type where the earphones attached to the left and right ears were connected by a cable such as a cable were the mainstream. Recently, the number of products that have removed the wired part and separated the left and right earphones is increasing.

The technology that wirelessly transmits audio data and voice data in this independent form is called "TrueWireless". The often-heard TWS is an abbreviation for TrueWireless Stereo, also known as complete wireless stereo.

Communication method

Wireless technology is used to enable TrueWireless technology.

Many products on the market mainly use the wireless standard "Bluetooth".

Qualcomm® TrueWireless technology and history

Qualcomm® TrueWireless™ Stereo

In the past, we used a relay method in which data is sent from the main device such as a smartphone to one earphone (Primary), and from that earphone to the other earphone (Secondary) (Qualcomm® TrueWireless™ Stereo) .

Qualcomm® TrueWireless™ Stereo Plus

Due to the development of Qualcomm's technology, it is now possible to send data from the main unit to both the left and right earphones (Qualcomm® TrueWireless™ Stereo Plus).

This technology eliminates obstacles (heads) between the base unit and each earphone, improving connectivity. Also, the load on the primary earbud side has been reduced, improving battery life.

Introducing TrueWireless Mirroring Technology

True Wireless Mirroring

Qualcomm®'s "Qualcomm® TrueWireless™ Stereo" and "Qualcomm® TrueWireless™ Stereo Plus" mentioned above had to support these functions on the master side as well.

However, "TrueWireless™ Mirroring" doesn't choose the parent device.

In addition, it is realized with a unique technology that mirrors the signal of the secondary earphone while connecting between the main unit and the primary earphone, and the device has been improved to further improve power consumption.

Even if you put one of the earphones back into the case, you can still play music or make calls with the other earphone alone.

It also supports Single Bluetooth Address, so when pairing with a parent device such as a smartphone, the parent device can recognize the left and right earphones as one device.

Furthermore, by monitoring the battery status of the left and right earphones, the Primary and Secondary are dynamically switched. This prevents the burden on only one of the earphones (shortening the battery life).

Summary

Qualcomm®'s TrueWireless technology has improved connection performance and battery life, and has evolved into a technology that can be used more comfortably.

The "TrueWireless™ Mirroring" technology introduced in this article can be realized with Qualcomm® Bluetooth products QC514x Series or QCC304x Series.
