What new sensor technologies are needed for a safe and secure hydrogen society?

Archived video of a webinar hosted by Nuvoton Technology.

This article contains an archived video of a webinar hosted by Nuvoton Technology on March 14, 2025.

As attention to hydrogen as a future clean energy source grows, the importance of hydrogen leak detection technology to ensure safety in hydrogen infrastructure such as hydrogen production facilities, hydrogen stations, and pipelines is increasing. However, conventional hydrogen detectors have challenges in terms of installation location, power supply, and maintenance, and there is a need for more flexible monitoring systems. This video explains the role of hydrogen in a carbon-neutral society and the background behind the need for hydrogen leak detection, and introduces the ultra-low power consumption hydrogen sensor technology developed by Nuvoton Technology. In addition to explaining the detection principle and sensor structure that achieves power consumption of less than 1/10000 compared to other companies, it also explains application examples in water electrolysis plants, hydrogen stations, pipelines, etc.

The video also introduces methods for achieving remote monitoring using wireless communication and long battery life, as well as initiatives aimed at reducing manpower for hydrogen leak management and equipment inspections, and lowering operation and maintenance costs. You can also see an actual hydrogen detection demonstration in the video. We encourage anyone considering a hydrogen energy-related business or involved in safety measures and maintenance work for hydrogen infrastructure to watch this video.
