What is PoE
PoE is an abbreviation for Power Over Ethernet, a technology that supplies power via a LAN cable (Ethernet). (On the contrary, there is also a technology called PLC that uses power lines as LAN cables.) By using PoE, there is no need to prepare a power adapter, and devices can be operated simply by connecting a LAN cable. For example, in a PoE-compatible teleconference system, power can be supplied simply by connecting a LAN cable.
Microchip's PoE product "Midspan"
Microchip has participated in standards bodies since the early days of PoE and continues to lead standards bodies today. We offer a wide range of products such as PoE IC (power supply "PSE"C, power reception "PD"IC), PoE System (PoE Switch, Midspan), which are adopted by customers all over the world and boast a high market share.
The advantage of using PoE Midspan products is that an AC adapter is not required, and power can be supplied in places where power is not available. By inserting Midspan into your existing LAN environment, you can build a simple PoE environment, eliminating the need to prepare an expensive PoE compatible Ethernet Switch.
Microchip's Midspan products support a wide range of power supplies (30W, 65W, 95W) and port counts (1, 4, 6, 12, 24). Indoor/outdoor/industrial/with surge function, DC or AC power input, and industrial temperature range, it can be used in a variety of applications. In addition, it has a protection function that automatically detects and does not supply power when connected to a device that does not support PoE.
