The background behind the recent adoption of displays for motorcycle instrument panels
In recent years, the shift towards display-based motorcycle meters has been rapidly progressing worldwide. The reason is clear: the amount of information riders need has increased, and complex information such as smartphone connectivity, navigation, and battery monitoring is now required, which cannot be fully displayed on traditional needle-type meters.
Furthermore, the increased freedom in vehicle design due to the spread of EVs/LEVs, as well as the trend towards premium products that offer "high functionality at a low price" in emerging markets, are also contributing factors.
Given this background, it is expected that display-based clusters, which offer high visibility and flexible layout options, will see increasingly accelerated adoption in the future.
Given this market context and the anticipated increase in future needs, Macnica has utilized Infineon products to create a Proof of Concept (POC) for a display cluster for motorcycles.
This proof-of-concept (POC) not only verifies the feasibility of the display functionality, but also allows you to concretely consider the scalability and implementation image that will be required in the future.
Below is an overview and features of the POC.

POC Hardware Design, Specifications, and Parts List
Features of POC
① Adopts an intuitive and highly visible EBN display.
It employs an EBN display and is designed with outdoor visibility in mind, which is important for motorcycle applications.
Therefore, it features a display that makes it easy to intuitively grasp necessary information even while driving.
Furthermore, thanks to its user-centric design, it has a proven track record of being adopted by automotive OEMs in the Indian region.
② One-chip integration with the highly flexible PSOC™4
This proof-of-concept (POC) utilizes the PSoC™ 4 4100S Plus series, enabling all necessary functions to be implemented on a single chip.
In addition to I/O control, it also supports analog input processing using a high-precision ADC and CAN communication.
Because it has sufficient resources as a microcontroller, it can flexibly accommodate the addition of new functions.
Furthermore, it supports ModusToolbox™, a free development environment provided by Infineon, enabling smooth development.
③ We can provide technical support for Infineon products, which have strong product capabilities.
Macnica can provide technical support for the microcontroller software used in the POC.
In addition to microcontrollers, we also provide technical support for peripheral devices such as CAN transceivers and power supply ICs.
④ Bluetooth® connectivity and CAPSENSE™ enable HMI expansion.
Bluetooth® connectivity allows for integration with external devices, expanding the system into a more convenient and expandable platform.
Furthermore, by combining it with CAPSENSE™, it is possible to expand not only the display but also the operating interface.
In future connected car and advanced HMI implementations, the flexibility of the programmable Automotive PSoC™ 4 allows you to implement the necessary functions on a single chip.
