2BLDC motor independent control solution with 1MCU provided by Macnica

This time, Macnica created a demo board using Infineon products that drives two BLDC motors using one MCU.
The benefits of using this solution are:

■The PWM method can be easily determined by the user, so MCU Significantly reduces the number of pins in 2 It is possible to operate the motor
■Each function of the Gate Driver can be set using registers, making it easy to make detailed design changes and reducing design man-hours and costs.

Target application

Radio controls, robots, drones, electric fans, motors, AGVs

Overview of the created demo board

You can check the motor rotation speed on the GUI while realizing independent control of each motor with 1 MCU.
Various control modes are possible by controlling the Gate Driver with SPI, and this demo board uses 1PWM mode to reduce the number of pins used by the MCU and achieves 2-motor control.

Below are the specifications of this demo board.

  • Maximum DC link voltage: 24V*1
  • Maximum input current: 30A
  • Maximum rotation speed: 2000rpm
  • Rotation direction change method: Tact switch *2
  • Rotation speed adjustment method: Potentiometer *2
  • Control method: 1PWM with Hall sensors *3

*1 Operates at 12-24V
*2 Can also be expanded to BLE and touch sensor control
*3 FB control using Hall sensors, 1PWM with Hall sensors selected to reduce the number of MCU pins used

Gate Driver :6EDL7141

Since it is a 6ch Gate Driver, it is possible to drive 6 MOSFET elements, and by setting registers with SPI, various parameters such as protection functions, gate current, PWM control method, etc. can be changed according to design specifications. .
Furthermore, a buck converter, LDO, and charge pump circuit are built-in, allowing for a smaller board and lower BOM cost.
