OPTIREG™ Multi-CAN Power+ SBC

As the name suggests, the Multi-CAN Power+ SBC uniquely includes four CAN FD transceivers and uses extremely efficient SMPS buck/boost technology to deliver 5V or 3.3V output voltages up to 750mA. . It is primarily suited for automotive applications that require multi-channel CAN transceivers, such as gateways and high-end body control modules.

Technical advantages of Infineon SBC

The above explains the space savings achieved by reducing the number of parts by adopting Infineon's SBC, but SBC also has many technical advantages. Some of the benefits are explained in the next section.

Dark current reduction

Compared to using each product such as a power supply IC and transceiver individually, using an integrated SBC has the advantage of suppressing dark current. However, CAN PN (Partial Networking) function is also included in some family products.

A normal High Speed CAN transceiver wakes up an ECU for any CAN traffic, regardless of whether it is assigned to an ECU, but a CAN PN can be assigned to a specific ECU even among ECUs hanging on the same CAN Bus. The generated wake-up frame allows only specific ECUs to wake up, while other messages are ignored, further reducing system-wide dark current.

Improved reliability

SBCs incorporate extensive diagnostic and protection features and can reduce the number of external components, improving system reliability compared to discrete configurations.

The figure on the right shows the block diagram of the TLE9461 series, which is the simplest family of Lite SBC products whose power IC is LDO, and the block diagram of Mid-Range+ SBC, but Infineon's SBCs use SPI in all families. Since it is a control, the internal watchdog functions such as Timeout Watchdog and Window Watchdog enable more detailed monitoring than normal power supply ICs, improving the reliability of the system.

It also includes State Machine, which includes various functions such as Fail-Safe Outputs/Inputs, Fail-Safe Operating Mode, and Over-/Under-Voltage Monitoring, making it even more reliable. System configuration is possible.
