Infineon Motor Controller ✖ IoT Solution

Introduction

Today, motors are used in a wide range of fields, includinghome appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators, as well as automobiles, industrial machinery, medical equipment, and OA equipment. Controlling motors by wireless or sensing datarequires expertise in different technologies such as motors, wireless, and sensors. As a result, the development period tends to be longer and the man-hours tend to increase.

By using a system that combines Infineon's motor control microcomputer iMOTION™, PSoC™ microcomputer, and wireless device, the development hurdles can be greatly reduced. There are three reasons for this.

  1. iMOTION™: Allows visual design with GUI
  2. PSoC™: Provides a rich reference SDK and achieves high compatibility with wireless devices and sensors
  3. Wireless device: WLAN and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) are realized on a single chip, reducing HW evaluation man-hours

This article introduces a system example that combines these three evaluation boards and controls a motor from a wireless or magnetic sensor.

Configuration diagram of the demo system

In this demo system, PSoC™, WLAN/BLE module, iMOTION™, and magnetic sensor evaluation board are connected.

PSoC™ receives WLAN/BLE and magnetic sensor signals and outputs signals to iMOTION™. iMOTION™ drives a BLDC motor according to the input signal.

Introduction of demo video

Motor control with BLE

A BLE device on the demo system and a smartphone have a BLE connection.

When a command is sent from a smartphone via BLE, the motor speed is adjusted according to the content of the command.

Motor control by WLAN reception signal strength

A WLAN device on the demo system receives WLAN radio waves emitted by a smartphone.

The motor speed is adjusted according to the strength of the received radio wave.

Motor control with magnetic sensor

A magnetic sensor on the demo system detects the magnetic flux density of the slide magnet.

Moving the slide magnet changes the value of the sensed magnetic flux density. Adjust the motor speed accordingly.
