Macnica participated in the JANOG53 Meeting in Hakata held from January 17th to 19th, 2024.
The scale of the event is even bigger!
JANOG (JApan Network Operators' Group) 53 Meeting in Hakata was held at the Hakata International Exhibition Center & Conference Center, located about a 15-minute walk from Hakata Station.
The number of sponsoring companies and participants has increased each time, but this time the number of local participants exceeded 3,000, which was even bigger and more exciting than the 2,300 people last time. it was done. Although the event is growing rapidly, the characteristics of JANOG, which is close and homely to visitors, has remained unchanged.
In this article, we will introduce the contents of the Company exhibition at JANOG53, which was once again a great success, as well as the very popular social gathering and BoF.
Macnica exhibited at four booths.
What was unique about this time was that there were more visitors from the first day than last time, and the venue was buzzing with excitement right after it opened. the Company exhibited at four booths, each with the following themes.
・Optical transceiver module
・Network for generative AI
·security
・Open networking
optical transceiver module
We held two demonstrations at the introduction booth for "Building a 100GB long-distance network!" The first is a demonstration of long-distance transmission using Coherent's new product, the optical transceiver module "100G-ZR QSFP28 DCO." We saw how the DSP developed by Coherent enabled error-free transmission of 80 km without the need for an optical amplifier while consuming low power, and we received surprised and happy responses from many people who said, ``5W of power consumption is quite impressive!'' Ta. Flextune™ is scheduled to be installed in the product in the summer of 2024, when sales are said to start, and we have heard that there are expectations for the automatic wavelength setting function. The second is a demonstration using MultiLane's module evaluation board "ML4041-K." Many visitors were interested in seeing the functions that can be used to check and configure the memory map of an optical transceiver module using the ML4041-K's dedicated GUI.
Network for generative AI
We have explained the network configuration required in the generation AI era. The key to maximizing the performance of generative AI is that the network that connects the large number of GPU servers that perform parallel distributed processing is high-speed, low-latency, and lossless. ``NVIDIA Spectrum-X'' for generative AI consists of the ``NVIDIA Spectrum-4'' switch with a maximum port speed of 800 Gb/s and the accelerator ``NVIDIA BlueField-3DPU'' installed on the server side that supports up to 400 Gb/s. I am. Macnica proposes the optimal network for each application you want to implement.
open networking
Macnica unifies "product combinations and maintenance/support distribution"! When building a network, we introduced "What is the best choice you can make in terms of cost, performance, quality, and support?" Learn more about open networking here.
▼ Seminar videos that help you quickly understand “open networking” are also available ▼
P4 language x FPGA accelerator reduces CPU resources and delays, and greatly improves performance! You saw a demo that implements an essential function for telecom carriers (automatic entry expiration).
security
We introduced the Skyhigh SSE solution for customers who have challenges in providing secure access to systems and clouds from inside and outside the company.

This time we will be on stage at BoF again!
As is the Company custom, this time we had Mr. Fujiwara and Mr. Arai from NTT Advanced Technology Corporation as well as Mr. Abeno and Mitamura from the Company, and the title was ``BoF to consider how to connect, clean, etc. the handling of optical transceivers.'' It was announced on . BoF stands for Birds of a Feather (a gathering of like-minded people), and it is a place where visitors can have hands-on discussions while actually touching the equipment and checking it out, rather than just giving a lecture. More than 150 people came to the large venue and were able to interact with the participants in the atmosphere unique to JANOG.
You can check the presentation materials and archive distribution of the day from the link below. We also introduced trouble cases that are not included in the distributed materials, so please also take a look at the archive broadcast, which will be available until 13:00 on February 29th. We will introduce more details in a separate article soon.
