The venue this time is right next to Mt.Fuji! Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture

JANOG51 was held from January 25th to 27th, 2023 at Fujisan Hall in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture.

The JANOG (JA​ ​pan Network Operators'Group) Meeting is an event held twice a year, and is a large conference that boasts the world's top-class attendance in the network industry. This time, the total number of participants was 2,196, and more than 1,100 people participated online.

A cold wave had just arrived, and there were many people who had a hard time getting into the venue, but they said, "I finally got to meet you!" There were many scenes where they were being used.

Macnica 's exhibit will feature 400G-ZR long-distance transmission and network automation/visualization

There were so many people that we couldn't move in front of Macnica booth!

At the booth, we exhibited two moving objects.

The first is a demonstration of long-distance transmission using the Coherent (formerly II-VI) Finisar brand optical transceiver module 400G-ZR. We have seen 80km transmission in an environment equivalent to dark fiber with added loss using an attenuator. We were able to attract interest from those who are actually using it and those who are considering 400G in the future.

The other is a demonstration of network automation and visualization in which Edgecore Networks' White Box and SONiC operating environment are operated and managed using Aviz Networks' ONES. Participants remotely accessed the demo environment in the Company LAB to see how we monitor network equipment, visualize traffic flow, and topology. Some of them commented, "There are many highly convenient functions, and the hurdles to introduction seem to be low."

In addition to interacting with customers with whom I have a daily relationship, I witnessed a scene unique to JANOG, where engineers can have in-depth discussions with each other.

JANOG 49 and 50 series "Thorough analysis of the effect of 'reflection loss' in high the Company speed optical fiber communication!" We use actual equipment to explain how the quality of communication is affected when multiple reflections occur due to deterioration of return loss in a communication environment using 400G (PAM4) LR4.

Sold out immediately! I also attended a very popular social gathering.

Unfortunately, the social gathering was canceled last time, but although it is limited to about 200 frames, this time we have been informed that it will be revived before the exhibition. However, it was sold out in a few minutes after the reception started! With the tickets I managed to secure, I went to the party venue. Unlike the past, it was a seated buffet style, but many people enjoyed interacting with each other at each table while enjoying delicious alcohol and food, and it was a moment when I realized the passion of JANOG again.

The next JANOG52 will be in Nagasaki!

This year's theme was "Starting, One Step", and there is an atmosphere that warmly welcomes those who have taken such a step to join JANOG for the first time. I was creating a sense of unity that is incomparable to the event.

It has been announced that the next event will be held at Dejima Messe Nagasaki in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture from July 5th to 7th, 2023. Macnica has been participating since JANOG41, and is also planning to participate in the next event, Macnica, so please come and see us at the venue!
