Introduction
Cassia Networks E1000 and X1000/2000 can easily receive advertising data advertised from Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) terminals. As described on each product introduction page, you can receive a communication distance of about 10m with BLE4.x with a line-of-sight of 300m by using a Cassia Networks Router.
In this article, I will explain how BLE advertising and scanning works.
About BLE channel
BLE uses the 2.4GHz ISM band from 2400MHz to 2483.5MHz and consists of a total of 40 radio channels.
The figure below is a mapping diagram of the BLE channel.
In this way, it consists of 3 advertising channels (37, 38, 39ch) and 37 data channels (0~36ch).
Advertising channels are spaced in this way to prevent interference with Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) in the same frequency band.
Advertiser
BLE advertiser can send advertisement data using 37,38,39ch explained above.
The figure below shows how the channel is used when the advertiser is advertising and the concept of the Advertise Interval.
Scanner
It is the scanner that receives the above advertised data.
Scanners also scan using advertising channels. However, only one channel can be used in one scan. Therefore, data loss may occur. As a workaround, it is possible to reduce data dropouts by adjusting the Scan Window and Scan Interval to reduce data dropouts on the scanner side, or by designing the advertiser to transmit advertised data two or three times. . Please refer to the diagram below for the relationship between advertising channels and scan channels.
Response at Cassia Networks
The Scan Window and Scan Interval described above can be manually set.
Cassia Networks also provides an optimized scan mode for Cassia Router.
・Continues Scanning Mode: Scanning performance is improved and BLE Connection performance is maintained.
Pure Scan Mode: Provides the best scanning performance under high noise conditions or when multiple BLE devices are present.
(Note: BLE Connection is not possible when using this mode)
Using BLE in a high-noise environment such as a factory was not realistic until now, but I think that using Cassia Networks' BLE Router and Continues Scanning Mode and Pure Scan Mode will bring us one step closer to realization. I'm here.
