Until now, impedance measuring instruments have been large and expensive benchtop models. Have you ever thought, "If there was a small, inexpensive module board type measuring instrument, it would be much more convenient to use?"
A module board that fulfills this wish is offered by Analog Devices, a long-established manufacturer of analog semiconductors.
We would like to introduce the ADMX2001B, a modular impedance analyzer that is inexpensive, small, and easy to incorporate and carry around.
Analog Devices begins selling ISS products. What is ISS?
The impedance analyzer we'll be introducing this time, the ADMX2001B, is one of Analog Devices' newly launched ISS products. ISS (Instrumentation System Solutions) products are system solutions for the measurement equipment market. They are provided not as individual components, but as ready-to-use modules, and are intended for incorporation into products or use as evaluation jigs.
In addition to impedance analyzers, the ISS product lineup also includes source measure units (SMUs) and ultra-low distortion signal generation modules (SGs).
The company also focuses on modules. Modules made up of products from the company, which has a long track record in the analog field, are expected to be not only easy to use but also to offer high performance.

Background to the emergence of ISS products
Why did ISS products come into existence? Conventional benchtop measuring instruments were large and expensive, costing anywhere from several hundred thousand yen to over one million yen. This posed the following challenges:
・It is difficult to incorporate into equipment or to transport to maintenance sites.
・It is difficult to secure a budget, and the internal approval process is cumbersome.
ISS products solve these problems. Because they are provided as small modules, they can be used for applications that were previously difficult, such as portability and embedding. Their low price makes it relatively easy to secure a budget.
If you are concerned about the size and price of traditional benchtop instruments, Analog Devices' ISS products may be a good option.
In the next section, we will introduce the impedance analyzer "ADMX2001B" in detail.

What is an Impedance Analyzer?
An impedance analyzer is a measuring instrument used to evaluate the characteristics of passive components such as resistors, inductors, and capacitors. Measurement items include impedance (Z), admittance (Y), resistance (R), inductance (L), and capacitance (C).
Generally, LCR meters measure at a fixed frequency, while impedance analyzers can measure by sweeping the frequency.
While traditionally benchtop models have been the norm, the ADMX2001B is provided as a module board.
While benchtop models are the mainstream, ADI has released a palm-sized impedance analyzer!
Features of the Impedance Analyzer "ADMX2001B"
The ADMX2001B Impedance Analyzer has the following features:
■ Ultra-compact: 38mm x 63.5mm, suitable for installation
Ultra-compact size of 38mm x 63.5mm. Can be incorporated into equipment or inspection jigs by replacing an LCR meter.
■ High accuracy: Evaluates characteristics with an accuracy of 0.05%
Basic accuracy is 0.05 %. By creating an ideal environment, high-precision measurements can be achieved.
■ High frequency support: Measurement up to 10MHz
While most general measuring instruments are limited to a few MHz, the ADMX2001 can measure up to 10 MHz.
■ Low price: Can be introduced for around 100,000 yen
Despite this performance, it can be purchased for around 100,000 yen (as of October 2025). This is a low price for an impedance analyzer, making it easier to secure a budget than before.
ADMX2001B usage example
The ADMX2001B can be used in a wide range of situations, primarily for incorporating into products and replacing inspection jigs.
It is particularly effective when used in pre-shipment inspection of semiconductors and electronic components. For example, at sites that are managing with a limited number of expensive benchtop measuring instruments, there may be waiting times for the measuring instruments, which can reduce inspection efficiency.
With the ADMX2001B, multiple units can be installed for the same budget as a benchtop instrument, significantly improving testing capacity and efficiency.
There are also a variety of other possible application examples, such as:
- Touch panel pre-shipment inspection
- Capacitive Sensor Inspection
- Performance evaluation of materials and batteries (impedance spectroscopy)
- water quality management
- Bioanalysis (skin impedance measurement, etc.)
Easy measurement with evaluation board set
The ADMX2001B can be easily combined with the evaluation board "EVAL-ADMX2001" to start measurements.
In the diagram below, the light green board in the center is the main unit, the ADMX2001B. The dark green board on the outside is the evaluation board, EVAL-ADMX2001. Simply plug the main unit into the evaluation board and clamp the measurement target with a 4-terminal cable, and the measurement results will be displayed on your PC.
What can be measured with ADMX2001B
Equipped with 18 measurement modes
The ADMX2001B has a total of 18 measurement modes, ranging from 0 to 17. In addition to the common C (capacitance), R (resistance), and L (inductance), it can evaluate a wide range of characteristics, including Q (quality factor).
for example,
Mode 0: Capacitance (Cs) and resistance (Rs) in series
Mode 5: Series inductance (Ls) and quality factor (Q)
You can select what you want to measure by simply switching modes, as shown below.

Easy measurement using Tera Term
Measurements can be easily performed using the terminal emulator "Tera Term." Necessary settings such as frequency, measurement mode, applied voltage, and number of averaging can be made by entering commands.
GUI tool also released
In addition, a GUI tool has also been released. Intuitive screen operation allows you to smoothly set measurement conditions and easily check results. You can use command operations and the GUI screen as you like.
This time, we introduced the impedance analyzer ADMX2001B from Analog Devices' ISS products.
The ADMX2001B is a module board equipped with highly reliable Analog Devices components, and is available in an affordable price range of around 100,000 yen.
