Features of the ultra-low noise, wideband acceleration sensor ADXL100x series

In recent years, many industrial sensor manufacturers have provided solutions for monitoring the condition of equipment such as industrial machinery. However, most of them use expensive sensor units that utilize piezoelectric elements.

The ADXL100x series, a new high-performance MEMS accelerometer developed by Analog Devices, has the features of conventional MEMS accelerometers: small size, light weight, low power consumption, low price, high reliability, robustness, and high integration, as well as sensing accuracy. also delivers innovative improvements and powerful breakthroughs for equipment condition monitoring applications.

In this article, we will explain the following four major features of the ADXL100x series.

  1. Product lineup that can be selected according to the measurement target
  2. Excellent noise characteristics over a wide band
  3. Stability and robustness due to MEMS structure
  4. Benefits for wireless and embedded applications

1. Lineup of multiple input ranges and bandwidths

The ADXL100x series offers multiple full-scale range options. It provides ultra-low noise density over a wide frequency range, making it suitable for industrial condition monitoring products.

ADXL1004 500 4 125 24 45 -40 to +125
ADXL1005 100 20 75 23 42 -40 to +125

2. Ideal for equipment status monitoring with ultra-low noise and wide bandwidth!

For example, the ADXL1001 and ADXL1002 achieve a noise density of 25 μg∛Hz even at a bandwidth of 0.1 Hz.
This ultra-low noise characteristic makes it possible to monitor low-frequency vibrations in low-speed equipment such as wind turbines and abnormal vibrations in motor bearings, and predict equipment failures at an early stage.

3. Outstanding stability with MEMS

The ADXL100x series has small sensitivity changes due to temperature and frequency bands, eliminating the need for expensive calibration. The MEMS structure is also robust against shock, with an absolute maximum rated input range of 10,000g.

4. Can be considered for various applications with low power consumption and self-test and overrange functions

The ADXL100x series operates with a single power supply of 3.0V~5.0V. The supply current is less than 1mA, and the average power consumption is 225uA in power-saving standby mode, making it suitable for wireless devices.

These products also feature a complete electrostatic self-test and overrange indicator, enabling advanced system-level features useful for embedded applications.

The package is a small 5 mm × 5 mm × 1.80 mm LFCSP.

"EVAL-ADXL100x" board ready for evaluation

Two sets of spaced vias for mounting pin headers allow easy attachment to prototyping boards and PCBs. Additionally, the small and rigid board is designed to minimize the impact on the user system and acceleration measurements.

EVAL-ADXL100x

The EVAL-ADXL100x is a simple evaluation board that allows you to quickly evaluate the performance of the ADXL100x series.
The EVAL-ADXL100x is specifically designed to be mounted on a mechanical shaker and is constructed from an extra-thick 0.8 inch square printed circuit board with threaded holes for secure attachment to the shaker block. Masu. This design allows the full range of performance of the ADXL100x series to be evaluated without the need to solder the device onto a separate test board.

A simple RC low-pass filter is also used at the -3 dB bandwidth output. This component can be replaced and you can also implement a low-pass filter on the output of the device that is specific to your application.
