Acquired IEC 61000-4 at the component level! Magnetic isolator ADuM144x series

IEC 61000-4 certified compact, low power consumption digital isolator ADuM144x series features

Safe operation of electronic equipment in hazardous areas poses challenges beyond simple IC design, such as intrinsic safety and galvanic isolation.

Based on iCoupler technology, the ADuM144x micropower 4-channel digital isolators enable isolation designs without the cost, size, power, performance, and reliability challenges of optocouplers.

The ADuM144x series of digital isolators from Analog Devices have the following features:

  1. Intrinsically safe (IS) digital isolators certified to the IEC 60079-11:2011 standard
  2. High data rate and ultra-low power consumption
  3. Reduce the number of parts and realize a simple circuit
  4. Optimal product can be selected from the combination of output direction and output logic

1. Intrinsically safe (IS) digital isolator certified to IEC 60079-11:2011 standard

Intrinsically safe certified by CSA-Sira and IECEx, global testing and certification service organizations.
This makes it easier to respond to intrinsically safe, explosion-proof, etc.

2. High data rate and ultra-low power consumption

The ADuM144x series has a maximum data rate of 2 Mbps.

The very low power consumption also enables isolation without compromising battery life in equipment that needs to run in the background for extended periods of time.

  • Operating voltage: 3.3V (typ)
    • Quiescent current per channel with refresh enabled: 5.6 μA
    • Quiescent current per channel with refresh disabled: 0.3 µA
    • Operating current per channel: 148μA/Mbps
  • Operating voltage: 2.5V (typ)
    • 3.4 µA quiescent current per channel with refresh enabled
    • Quiescent current per channel with refresh disabled: 0.1 μA
    • Operating current per channel: 117μA/Mbps

3. Reducing the number of parts and realizing a simple circuit

Since the numerous diodes and resistors used in conventional photocouplers are no longer required, printed circuit board space and component costs are reduced, while at the same time being freed from complex designs, simple circuits are realized.

4. The optimal product can be selected from the combination of output direction and output logic

The ADuM144x series has multiple options for the four-channel output direction and output logic (High/Low).

Available in 16-pin QSOP and 20-pin SSOP packages, it saves approximately 70% board space compared to isolator products in wide-body SOIC packages.

A 2-channel ADuM124x series is also available.
