This article introduces Analog Devices' biopotential AFE (analog front end).
The AD8233 biopotential AFE is an integrated signal conditioning block for unipolar lead electrocardiogram (ECG) and other biopotential measurement applications, designed to extract, amplify, and filter small biopotential signals under noisy conditions such as those caused by motion or remote electrode placement. This design allows the output signal to be easily acquired by an ultra-low power analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or an embedded microcontroller.
Normally, ECG front-ends need to be designed with discrete components, which is costly and time-consuming. The AD8233 introduced here can reduce unnecessary costs and design time, and shorten the development time for end products.
In addition, the AD8233's small size of 2.0 mm x 1.7 mm enables the design of small and lightweight wearable medical devices that are easy to wear. In addition, long operating life is also a crucial factor for cardiac monitors, and low power consumption is required to ensure continuous monitoring and obtain accurate data without interruption for recharging or battery replacement. The AD8233 is an AFE that achieves low power consumption, which can significantly improve the operating life of products.
