Black Duck Software - User Case Study - Sekisui House Co., Ltd.
Strengthening security systems and ensuring safe website operation
Sekisui House, one of Japan's leading housing manufacturers, felt a sense of crisis due to the intensification of increasingly sophisticated and complex cyberattacks on a global scale. With the support of Macnica, the company implemented Black Duck's "ContinuousDynamic™" as a system to continuously guarantee security. This allows for continuous scanning of the company's publicly available website, as well as vulnerability assessments by experts. This has strengthened their security system and enabled the safe operation of their website.
Before
- In response to the increasing damage caused by cyberattacks worldwide, the need to strengthen measures against data breaches is growing.
- Because websites are updated daily, what's safe today may not be safe tomorrow.
- Existing vulnerability assessment tools incur a fee for each assessment, and there is a lead time from the request to the assessment.

After
- Through automated diagnostics and penetration testing by tools and experts, vulnerabilities that could not be detected by existing diagnostics were also discovered.
- If there are any changes to your registered website, a diagnostic check will be performed automatically, allowing you to always stay informed of the latest status.
- Domain-based subscription contracts are available, allowing for continuous use while keeping total costs down.
- A system for securely releasing and operating websites has been realized.

Cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated on a global scale; we must continue to strengthen our security measures.
Since its founding in 1960, Sekisui House has consistently focused on housing and built a strong position in the domestic market. Currently, as a comprehensive construction company centered on the design and construction of houses, it is pursuing a growth strategy centered on housing through four business models: contract-based, stock-based, development-based, and international business. It is also actively expanding its business in global markets, including the United States and Australia, through acquisitions of US housing companies.
In recent years, cyberattacks have become more sophisticated on a global scale, and Japanese companies are no exception. Since 2021, the number of data breaches and losses at listed companies and their subsidiaries in Japan has reached a record high for four consecutive years (according to Tokyo Shoko Research), indicating that companies are constantly exposed to the risk of data breaches. The causes of such data breaches include unauthorized access, malware infection, loss, and user error, but in recent years, unauthorized access has accounted for the largest number. Once a data breach occurs, it can not only damage a company's reputation but, in some cases, even jeopardize the very survival of its business.
Alarmed by this situation, the company conducted a comprehensive review of all its publicly accessible websites in 2025. Hayato Yokotani of the Security Group, Security Systems Promotion Office, IT Design Department, said, "As our business expands on a global scale, the assets the Company need to protect are increasing, and we strongly felt the need for continuous security measures. Therefore, we conducted a vulnerability assessment of all our publicly accessible websites using a certain tool. We conducted a comprehensive security check and inventory. However, websites are updated daily. In other words, what is safe today may not be safe tomorrow, so we thought it was necessary to have a system that can continuously guarantee security."
