Birth of Japan's first next-generation digital bank

Minna no Bank is a digital bank affiliated with the Fukuoka Financial Group, aiming to be a completely new bank that mainly targets the digital native generation. From the establishment of the company in August 2019, to the acquisition of a banking business license, the construction and operation of a banking system (accounting system), and the start of operation of the banking system in January 2021, it was completed in a short period of 18 months. The service started in May.
The feature of the bank is that it was the first in the industry to build a full-cloud banking system. Redefining banking operations and the significance of existence, we designed a zero-based banking system so that all services such as account opening, ATM deposits and withdrawals, and transfers can be completed on a smartphone. Google's public cloud service "Google Cloud" with mission-critical availability and performance is adopted as the system platform, and the application consists of Microservices architecture and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) container.
"We built the entire banking system on a full cloud platform, including the introduction of a DevOps-based development and operation system, so that we can flexibly and quickly update the system as services and products expand and change. (Mr. Kenji Ninomiya, Group Leader, Cyber Security Group, Minna no Bank

Selected Prisma Cloud, which has a proven track record globally

Security is extremely important in order to increase the safety of such a full cloud banking system. To implement this security feature, Minna no Bank began by searching for the best security solution for its mission-critical banking system.
The bank's banking system integrates security functions into a DevOps platform by linking with CI/CD tools, aiming to implement DevSecOps that takes security into consideration from the initial development stage. Therefore, in addition to supporting cloud-native technologies such as Microservices architecture and containers, we selected and compared multiple security solutions that can be incorporated into DevSecOps. As a result, the bank selected Palo Alto Networks Cloud Native Security provided by Macnica Solutions.
