Building a cloud-based next-generation system infrastructure to quickly provide valuable services

JCB Co., Ltd. (hereafter, JCB), which operates the only international credit card brand in Japan, is promoting various digital transformations (DX) in order to respond to the payment service market where the trend toward cashless is accelerating. We are working on it. As part of this, the System Division, which is in charge of planning, development, maintenance and operation of JCB's system infrastructure, launched the "Business Construction Acceleration Project" in 2020 with the aim of building an agile business.
“Until now, JCB has had the problem that it takes a long time to get applications that support new businesses up and running. , launched a project to completely renew everything." (Mr. Hiramatsu)
The first thing we worked on in that project was the construction of the JCB Digital Enablement Platform (JDEP).
“Microservices is JCB’s next-generation system infrastructure that uses Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as a cloud platform. We aimed to provide services quickly. We have already built and launched multiple applications centered on the JCB brand business, and we have already developed applications for issuers (credit card issuers) and acquirers (merchant management companies). We are also in the process of developing it one by one.” (Mr. Hiramatsu)

Selected Prisma Cloud, which provides CWPP and CSPM functions in one service and can be operated and set intuitively

In constructing and operating JDEP, JCB placed the greatest emphasis on security measures for the cloud-native environment.
“JDEP uses Kubernetes to manage containers that store applications, and we thought that a CWPP (Cloud Workload Protection Platform) product would be essential to monitor and protect container workloads. Products in the CSPM (Cloud Security Posture Management) area are also indispensable to prevent setting and input errors that pose a risk of incidents in the cloud. We considered it.” (Mr. Sasano)
In response to this, the JDEP project conducted a comparative study of security solutions.
