[Background] Prediction based on data analysis is practiced in-house and deployed to support DX for customers

The VDA (Virtual Data Analytics) Promotion Section of the Digital Strategy Headquarters is a department whose mission is to promote the analysis and utilization of data within the company. So far, we have deployed the self-service BI tool "Tableau" in-house and promoted the use of data accumulated in the core system at the business site. As a preliminary step to providing solutions that support customers' DX, the company's policy is to first implement new technologies in-house and to deploy the know-how obtained from the results outside the company. It is said that the introduction of new technologies is not originally top-down, but is often led by the Digital Strategy Headquarters. This time, Driverless AI also aims to have future predictions based on data analysis actually utilized in internal business departments, and has started a bottom-up initiative from the same headquarters.

[Problem] Focusing on predictive AI to efficiently predict “what will happen”

As mentioned above, the company has been promoting data analysis of the core system for some time, and the business department has a history of utilizing data such as sales, shipments, and production in business through self-service BI. However, Junko Yamashita of the VDA Promotion Section explains that most of the data analysis so far has been limited to "reflection on the past." "With the spread of data analysis using BI, we were able to see forecasts for recent sales, shipments, production, etc. to some extent, but the forecast data was not that highly reliable.
