Macnica Begins Accepting Mass Production Orders for Coherent's 100G ZR DCO Optical Transceivers - Providing an Optimal Solution to Meet the Needs of Long-Distance, High-Capacity Transmission -

Macnica (headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter referred to as Macnica) announced today that it has begun accepting mass production orders for 100G ZR DCO optical transceivers from Coherent Corp. (headquarters: California, USA; CEO: Jim Anderson; hereinafter referred to as Coherent).

■Challenges in realizing optical transmission despite growing demand
With the rapid increase in demand for cloud services, video streaming, etc., there is a growing need to realize long-distance, high-speed, and large-capacity optical transmission. However, conventional optical transmission systems require optical conversion devices called transponders, which pose issues such as investment costs, power consumption, and installation space.

■Features of Coherent's 100G ZR DCO optical transceiver
Coherent's 100G ZR DCO is a product that integrates the functionality of a transponder into an optical module. Coherent's proprietary digital signal processing technology enables high transmission performance and reliability while allowing networks to be expanded flexibly and simply without the use of transponders (Figure 1). In addition, this product is equipped with Coherent's patented automatic wavelength setting function, Flextune™ ^{* 1}, which significantly reduces the time required to build a network (Figure 2). Since its announcement in January 2024, it has been attracting attention around the world as a groundbreaking solution that can flexibly and quickly respond to a sudden increase in communication traffic.

■First Successful Demonstration in ^Japan*2 on a Real Environment
Macnica Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Furukawa Electric") jointly demonstrated the use of this product at Interop Tokyo 2024 held at Makuhari Messe in June 2024. Coherent's 100G ZR DCO was attached to Furukawa Electric's FITELnet FX2 100GbE-enabled multiservice router, and the first 100Gbps long-haul optical transmission over a real environment was achieved using this product in Japan.

Macnica will continue to contribute to our customers' businesses by providing Coherent's 100G ZR DCO.

*1: This is a unique function patented by Coherent. By using a wavelength tunable optical transceiver module and MUX/DEMUX equipped with this function, wavelength setting can be completed fully automatically. This solves the issues of inventory management and operational issues of wavelength setting.
