HiperLCS-2 chipset improves LLC converter efficiency, delivering up to 1650W of continuous output power
Power Integrations' highly efficient HiperLCS-2 offline LLC switcher IC chipset now delivers up to 1650W of continuous output power with over 98% efficiency. A new addition to the family with superior thermal dissipation, HiperLCS-2 reduces enclosure volume and eliminates the need for vents and fans, improving reliability and resistance to dust and moisture in industrial power supplies and chargers for e-scooters and outdoor power tools.
The HiperLCS-2 chipset consists of an isolation device (HiperLCS2-SR) featuring a high-bandwidth LLC controller, synchronous rectification driver, and FluxLink isolated control link, and a separate half-bridge power device (HiperLCS2-HB) utilizing Power Integrations' proprietary 600V FREDFETs with lossless current sensing and high-side and low-side drivers. Key features include:
・Scalability
- 1650W continuous power and 2450W peak power in a new POWeDIP package
- 220W output power without heat sink using InSOP package
- Up to 60% reduction in component count and board space compared to discrete LLC
- Equipped with an input sense circuit, the no-load standby power consumption is 65mW or less even when using this circuit
- Excellent transient response from 0 to 100%
The new members of the HiperLCS2-HB family feature Power Integrations' innovative POWeDIP package with an electrically isolated, thermally conductive ceramic pad. Mounting on any flat heat-dissipating surface and ample creepage distance around the package pins enables overall heat dissipation of less than 1°C per watt. Power supply designs based on HiperLCS-2 can achieve no-load input power of less than 65mW at 400VDC input, providing a continuously regulated output and easily complying with the world's most stringent no-load and standby efficiency regulations. All members of the HiperLCS-2 family feature self-biased startup, providing the startup bias for PFC converters utilizing Power Integrations' HiperPFS ICs.
