Dramatically extend the range of MIPI cameras! Introducing the SerDes Development Kit

From February​ ​6, 2023, THine Electronics has started selling a SerDes development kit that can greatly extend the signal transmission distance of MIPI cameras.
The product name is "MIPI Camera SerDes Starter Kit" (hereafter, starter kit).

This starter kit uses a combination of the SerDes set "THEVA24-RJ45-SET-V1", the specified grabber board "THEVA-GRABBER-V1", and the "compatible camera module".

*Supported camera modules must be purchased separately from camera module vendors.

"THEVA24-RJ45-SET-V1" includes a Tx board on the camera side, an Rx board on the grabber board side, and an Ethernet cable as a set. The Tx and Rx boards are equipped with THCV241A-P (serializer) and THCV242A-P (deserializer), which are the company's MIPI interface conversion SerDes chipsets.

The biggest feature of the starter kit is that you can see the image as soon as you connect the starter kit and the grabber board. There is no need to create an evaluation board, modify the evaluation board, or generate registers.

 

The connector uses RJ45, which is widely used in the industrial equipment field. Ethernet cables with RJ45 come in various lengths, making it easy for users to choose according to the distance they want to try.

 

Users will use the starter kit to perform PoC (Proof of Concept), and then move on to designing actual mass-produced products based on that environment. When transitioning to mass production design, you can receive reference circuits and reference codes from the company. There is also a GUI tool that will generate the appropriate register settings if you want to change the number of cameras or the resolution. These can be downloaded from the user page by registering as a user through the URL notified when you purchase "THEVA24-RJ45-SET-V1".

Figure 3 summarizes what we have discussed so far.

Also, through the starter kit, the company and users have the same environment, which may shorten the time to resolution when technical support is required.

 

Figure 4 is a list of currently supported sensor/camera modules. Going forward, we plan to gradually increase the lineup of compatible sensors.
