Overview
EVAL-M1-099M-C is a design kit for realizing sensorless motor control provided by Infineon.
The EVAL-M1-099M-C is equipped with a motor control IC "IRMCK099".
"IRMCK099" is equipped with Infineon's iMOTION™ motor control engine, so FOC control can be easily realized. Motor control is achieved by setting parameters with a dedicated GUI. Therefore no coding is required.
Here, we will explain how to achieve brushless 3-phase AC motor control in a short period of time using the iMOTION motor control IC and development kit.
Sensorless motor control requires experience and deep knowledge
More than 40% of the world's electricity consumption is consumed by motors. As a result, regulations on the power consumption of motors have become stricter, and even in Japan, the obligation to improve efficiency is progressing.
In order to reduce the power consumption of motors, motor control with variable speed control is becoming mainstream.
Therefore, sensorless, 3-phase AC brushless motors are the motors with the greatest reduction in power consumption.
However, sensorless motors must be driven in closed-loop control, using voltage, current, motor parameters, etc. to measure position and velocity. Therefore, designing a sensorless brushless motor requires a high degree of expertise and a long development period.
Adopting a sensorless motor requires advanced control technology using a microcomputer.
In order to develop general sensorless motor control, it is necessary to modify the parameters of the motor characteristics to be driven and fine-tune the program. For this reason, developing a motor control can take months for an engineer with limited expertise.
Why EVAL-M1-099M-C allows you to operate in one hour even if you have little knowledge of motor control
Infineon's Motor Application Design Kit (EVAL-M1-099M-C) allows you to control a sensorless 3-phase motor in minutes.
The iMOTION motor control IC has all the control and analog interface functions required for FOC control.
Furthermore, by using Infineon's unique motor controller engine, motor control can be realized in a short time.
It only takes 3 steps to actually operate using the design kit (EVAL-M1-099M-C).
STEP1. Connect the required equipment and design kit (EVAL-M1-099M-C)
The necessary equipment is as follows
- computer
- TinyWizard (free GUI tool)
- MCEDesigner (free GUI tool)
- MCEProgrammer (free tool)
- Design kit body (EVAL-M1-099M-C)
- MCETOOLV2 (programming, debugging equipment)
- Inverter board (prepared according to the motor on hand. See below)
- Hand-held sensorless 3-phase motor
Connect the above and install the tool on your PC.
STEP2. Set motor-specific parameters
Set the specific parameters of your motor.
Specifically, when the power switch is turned on, TinyWizard (a free GUI tool) automatically calculates the parameters.
Import the parameters into MCEDesigner (a free GUI tool) and you're done.
STEP3. Drive the motor
Just load the reference design with MCEDesigner (free GUI tool) and click the Start button to drive the motor.
After that, you can easily control it by adjusting the speed and functions with the GUI of MCEDesigner. You can also use the monitor function to capture data from the trace buffer, save it to a text file, and display it graphically.
For actual motor control development, you can proceed with development based on this reference design.
Inverter board that can be selected according to the motor to be used
The motor application design kit (EVAL-M1-099M-C) has an external inverter board that drives the motor so that you can freely select the motor to be evaluated.
You can choose the inverter board from the following products.
