At the seminar held on March 30, 2023, we verified and demonstrated 40km transmission using Coherent's 10G BiDi/10G ER optical transceiver module products, in order to provide useful information for such customers. explained.

Of the 10G products, the 30km BiDi, the 40km ER, and the 80km ZR were examined and verified this time.

Can a 30km BiDi fly over 40km?

BiDi (Bi-Directional) products have half the number of optical fibers compared to normal optical transceiver modules. Therefore, it leads to the reduction of capital investment, and it is a product that we would like to consider for those who are worried about cost reduction.

First of all, we examined the data sheet and confirmed that the BiDi product is capable of 30km transmission at the nominal value. However, I thought that it might be possible to fly a little more, so I tried to verify whether 40km transmission was possible. In addition, we examined and explained in detail the Path Penalty that must be considered when adding an optical attenuator to what extent it can be tolerated.

2. If it is a 40km ER Duplex, what is the measured transmission value?

Next is a 40km product that uses an ER (Extended Range) product, and we were able to consider that it could fly 65km based on a desk verification based on the data sheet. Now, I introduced the results of verification by actually building a system using 40km fiber, 60km fiber, and 80km fiber.
